Loghborough United F.C. is a club that was formed in 1989 and play in the North Leicestershire Football League. However the name of Loughborough United F.C. has a much longer history.
Loughborough United were formed c. 1960 and were elected to Midland League in 1961. The Sixties were a good time for the club as they were league champions in 1963 and twice reached the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup. However the success was short lived and after some difficult seasons they left the league in 1973 after finishing bottom for the second successive season.
Their ground was located on Browns Lane in the centre of Loughborough until the club ended (see Photo Gallery). The ground was then demolished to make way for the Charnwood Leisure centre.

Loughborough United F.C., as a Senior side, was founded in 1989. Loghborough United F.C. Juniors had been established for some time prior.
In 1989 it was decided to add a Senior section to compliment the large Junior ranks that ranged from under 10's to under 15's.
The addition of the Senior section was seen as a natural progression for players within the junior raks to aspire to.
The two sections operated for over ten years and the club grew to the point that it catered for local football from the ages of under 9's through under 18's and into senior football. In terms of size it was the second largest club in the area. Second only to Loughborough Dynamo F.C.
In 2001 the Junior section of the club merged with a newly formed club Loughborough F.C. that was being set up as a high level club and an opprotunity to offer Junior players an opportunity to progress to a higher level.
The Senior section continues to operate under the name of Loughborough United F.C. upto the present day.

There was a dramatic end to a match between Falcon Swifts and Loughborough United - when half the players walked off the pitch.
The referee was forced to abandon the game after 84 minutes after two Falcons players were sent off causing the rest of the team to walk off in sympathy.
United had been leading 3-0 at the time.
